THE PROJECT
When Nido Early School was building a brand-new childcare facility in Mandurah, in southern Perth, waterproofing was a top priority.
Two sizeable second-level podium deck outdoor spaces - a playground and an activity area - required effective waterproofing to protect these spaces, and the building overall, from future water damage. The playground was situated above the building's retail and office space, while the activity area was located above the childcare facility.
THE SOLUTION
Proofex Torchseal A300 and A600 combined to deliver the perfect waterproofing solution for this project. A two-layer system, Proofex Torchseal membranes are manufactured from a bitumen and APP mix, reinforced with a layer of non-woven polyester, creating a high melt point when in contact with a flame and high-puncture resistance membrane.
Applicators applied Proofex Torchseal A300 and A600 according to Technical Data Sheet instructions:
Step 1: Fosroc Primer 24 was applied as the substrate primer. This fast-drying product is the ideal primer for Proofex Torchseal membranes.
Step 2: Proofex Torchseal A600 was torch applied as the base layer, ensuring that penetrations such as drain outlets were properly lapped, sealed and flashed, as these are common failure points.
Step 3: Proofex Torchseal A300 was torch applied as the top layer of the system.
Step 4: Leak detection and flood detection tests were conducted, confirming that a totally waterproof system had been installed.
The result was two fully waterproofed decks, ready for the application of play surfaces including rubber, artificial turf and mulch, as well as equipment and seating.
