In response to regulatory changes in Europe regarding the use of products containing isocyanate, Fosroc ANZ is spearheading the push in Australia and New Zealand for safer isocyanate-free sealants.

Nitoseal MS250, one of Fosroc ANZ's Nitoseal MS hybrid range, is a UV resistant, non-trafficable, elastomeric joint sealant for use on facades and general construction joints.

Like its sister product, Nitoseal MS400, Nitoseal MS250 uses state-of-the-art Duraflex technology which provides the weathering and adhesion performance of silicone sealants, with the strength and toughness of polyurethanes - without the isocyanates.

Superior performance and easier application

Not only does Nitoseal MS250 offer superior performance in terms of durability, applicators also find it produces less stringing and is easier to gun out.

According to Fosroc ANZ’s sealant specialist, Technical Support Manager, Martin Venn, Nitoseal MS hyrid products are the perfect alternative for applicators and specifiers who wish to avoid isocyanates.

"The Nitoseal MS hybrid range offers enhanced safety, without compromising on performance," he explains.

"Given their advantages in terms of performance, usability and safety, I can see the Nitoseal MS products becoming the new sealant of choice," he says.

Where is Nitoseal MS250 used?

Typical applications for Nitoseal MS250 include:

  • Sealing moving or static joints in building facades
  • General construction where high UV resistance is required
  • Precast and insitu concrete, curtain walls, lightweight cladding, tilt-up slabs, brick and blockwork.

The risk of isocyanates

Most sealants on the market contain isocyanates. Isocyanates are a group of highly reactive organic compounds commonly found in materials such as polyurethane foams, synthetic rubbers, paints and varnishes. These compounds easily become volatile and enter the atmosphere as a vapour.

Exposure to isocyanates can result in irritation of the nose, throat and eyes. It can cause coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath, as well as nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Direct contact with the skin or eyes can result in conjunctivitis, blistering, and irritation. Prolonged exposure can cause liver and kidney disease, chronic lung damage or cancer.

A safer, better sealant

Australian made, Fosroc Nitoseal MS250 brings the best of polyurethanes and silicones together for a safer, better performing product.

Benefits include:

  • It is easier to gun out

  • It is paintable
  • It is non-staining
  • It produces less stringing
  • It contains no isocyanates

Unrivalled colour options

Fosroc ANZ offers unrivalled colour choice and colour matching for the Nitoseal MS range.

Nitoseal MS250 is manufactured in 11 Australian standard colours, with custom colour matching offered for orders of 120 units or more, with a lead time of 14-21 days from colour approval.

While Nitoseal MS250 can be painted over if needed, the extensive colour offer provides a valued option for specifiers that don't want surfaces painted.

A stronger safer option

Looking for an even stronger sealant that is also isocyanate-free? Nitoseal MS400 is a UV resistant, high strength, elastomeric joint sealant for trafficable and general construction joints.

Like Nitoseal MS250, it contains no isocyanates and is very low VOC.
