With a new formula on the market for just over a year, Fosroc's Nitoflor polyurethane cement has quickly gained the tick of approval from flooring installers and asset owners. It's been particularly well received in the food and beverage sector, having been installed in numerous wet processing zones, from supermarkets, bakeries, breweries and butchers to large manufacturing plants.

A self-levelling industrial floor topping, Fosroc Nitoflor PU600 has been designed for applications that require high resistance to mechanical stress and chemical attack. Slip-resistant aggregates can be added on top of the polyurethane cement before it is sealed with Fosroc Nitoflor PU200.

Installers review new Nitoflor PU600

Ascoat Contracting installed the new formula for an international beverage producer based in Melbourne.

“The flow and the self-levelling properties are excellent. Our installation team was very impressed with the workability of the product," says Henko Blaauw, Ascoat's Technical Sales Representative and the project manager on this job.

Fast return to service was a key requirement and the Nitoflor PU system did not disappoint.

"The PU600 base coat was installed using a pinned rake. This dramatically reduces installation times compared to products that require trowel application. It saves on labour costs and improves turnaround times for the asset owner.”

The base, hardener, fillers and selected colour pigment are mixed on site in a hippo mixer. But unlike other PU products, Henko says the PU600 formula offers easy mixing. "Sometimes the Part C fillers can stick to the sides of the hippo, which then requires regular scraping. With the PU600, this is not the case. The entire process was very clean and user-friendly.”

Fast and trouble-free results

With decades of experience in flooring and construction solutions, Fosroc ANZ's Greg Smith says he was confident the new formula would fill a gap in the polyurethane cement market.

"For efficient application and trouble-free results, this product is outstanding. With flooring installations you need to get it right the first time. The way this flows and self-smooths is a game changer," Greg says.

On top of fast application, the floor can handle foot traffic after 24 hours and vehicle traffic after 48 hours.

Another key point of confidence for applicators is that the product is manufactured locally in Australia, on the New South Wales Central Coast.

"Use-by dates really matter with PU cements. If the chemistry starts to age, it will impact the results. Fosroc ANZ is well positioned to deliver fresh materials and the technical service on the ground."

HACCP-certified for food and beverage floors

"This flooring system can effectively be cleaned to the same standard as stainless steel," Greg explains.

While many asset owners choose to add slip-resistant aggregates, food producers such as bakeries prefer a smooth finish for rolling racks and trolleys around.

Here are the system's key benefits for the food and beverage sector:

  • HAACP Certification – approved for use in food and beverage facilities
  • Handles extreme temperatures
  • High chemical resistance
  • Hard wearing – abrasion resistant
  • Low odour and non-tainting during application
  • Fast turnaround times (foot traffic after 24 hours, vehicle traffic after 48 hours)
  • Anti-microbial properties
  • Excellent slip resistance properties with aggregates broadcast
  • Available in eight colours, including seven Australian Standard colours

Nitoflor PU200 can also be applied as a standalone coating for concrete.
